Topoloveni plum jam could enter the Swiss market, in the big bio and natural product store chains, the plum jam being recommended by Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Bucharest himself, Jean Hubert Leber, who paid a visit to the Topoloveni plum jam plant owned by Romanian producer Sonimpex.
'We can create the general collaboration framework between the two states, but the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Romania — Switzerland is the one actively supporting the trade relations between the two countries. I hope to see your products on the racks of Switzerland stores,' Jean Hubert Lebet said.
Upon entering the plant, the Ambassador was welcomed by two Saint Bernard dogs, a Swiss breed, which guarded the jars of fresh plum jam coming out of the production line, the Ambassador showing his delight with this symbolic connection between the traditions of his country and the Romanian traditions.
The Ambassador advised the plum jam producers to get in touch with the bio and natural product store chains of Switzerland, in search of healthy products, as the plum jam could be labelled as 'the plum chocolate,' a natural and healthy sweet, recommended for consumption as early as the age of six months.
Moreover, Jean Hubert Lebet also had talks with a group of children of the 'Saint Martyr Philothea' Gymnasium School of Excellence, who came visit the plant to see how Topoloveana eggplant mixture was made.
According to Sonimpex Managing Director Bibiana Stanciulov, the company has entered the bio market this year, having obtained the first certificate of this kind for the plum jam, which could bring about the debut of plum jam exports to the Swiss market.
'We entered the ninth year of existence, we entered the bio area, this month having obtained the first certificate of this kind for the plum jam, but we also got a project for promoting the product in Switzerland. All these have a great significance to us (...) Same as after Prince Radu's visit we have become suppliers of Romania's Royal House, we hope that after the visit of His Excellency, we begin exporting the plum jam to Switzerland. It is our plum chocolate, the only food product that has placed Romania on the map of products with Protected Geographical Indication, also appreciated by the renowned International Taste & Quality Institute of Brussels — ITQI, with two Michelin stars out of three possible,' Bibiana Stanciulov, Topoloveni plum jam producer, said.
The event was also marked by the presence of Secretary of State with the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry (MADR) Achim Irimescu and namely of MADR's Director General Viorel Morarescu. The officials said that this year they would present the plum jam to the Embassy of Japan, on the occasion of an event devoted to Romanian traditional product tasting.
'Romania only has this product acknowledged on a European level. This thing was owed both to the very high quality and to the fact that Mrs Stanciulov is a real fighter. Same as Switzerland is invincible in the area of fine mechanics, we hope Romania becomes invincible in the area of agri products. We have high quality products and I hope that, in collaboration with the Swiss partners, this market should also benefit from the products made by Bibiana Stanciulov,' Achim Irimescu maintained.
Sonimpex company is the only Romanian producer in the area of fruit processing and preserving without added sugar, without additives and preservation agents, having in its portfolio, besides the Topoloveni plum jam, a range of about 10 jams without added sugar and preservers, but also an eggplant mixture and a tomato paste.
Topoloveni plum jam holds the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) on a European level since April 8, 2011, this being the first distinction of the kind received by a Romanian traditional product. Topoloveni natural plum jam is made after a recipe kept since 1914. AGERPRES
